Hi all - Last night I experienced a weird problem.

My iMac randomly shut-down while I was browsing the web, no blue screen or anything just a shut down... and I rebooted and it did it again about ten minutes later.

Any reason which would cause this behavior...?

This sounds like it could be a heat related issue. If any of the 3 major fans are not working properly the sensors could read too high of a temp and automatically shut down to save your hardware. Load SMC Fan Control to see what the temps are and that the fans are running as needed.

Even still I would take it in to be looked at since it's so new.

can i just show up at an apple store and they'll look at it?

They won't do anything if they do not see the problem. Did anything ususual appear in the logs? Are the shutdowns occurring with greater frequency?

I have the same i7 iMac you do, and I went through hell with an iMac G5 that showed similar problems to yours.

Yea - was having the same issue. Taking it down to 12gb of RAM solved it.
Now if I can just figure out why ever song skips in iTunes and I get random 'beachball' freezes at random. My iMac will finally be usable!
