I have a 27” iMac which has progressively been getting worse with the backlight going black while turned on - seemingly after a completely random amount of time ranging from 5 seconds to 15 minutes and doesn’t appear to be linked to temps.
Computer stays running during this time, and if you shine a torch on it you can see the display.
Occasionally, pressing the power button will jog it into life again for a few seconds or minutes.
I seem to have tried everything including running it with or without the v-sync cable, temp sensor, only thing I haven’t done is replace the main LCD ribbon which looks a bit crumpled and has a piece of plastic broken from the end but seems to stay in place fine.
The temp sensor connector was damaged during a previous hard drive replacement - it was running fine for many months but is it possible an intermittent connection there might have been causing it? The connector is now broken off so isn’t connected at all now.
Anyone have any suggestions before I retire it?
Thanks!
