Hi Guy`s ,

I need help and advice , please , thanks in advance :D

Here`s the deal :

I have a 2010 Mac Mini 4.1 / 4 Gb - Ram / NVIDIA GeForce 320M
and the standard rotating mass ! ( HDD ).

I have watched the video @ OWC on how to replace / change HDD to SSD.
It all looks fairly straight forward , except for a couple of things.

The " stick on" that is on the original HDD , to hold the wire and sensor in place, can that be replace with just plain electrical tape ?

I just don`t think it would stick back on properly after almost 3 years of use.

Now the second part might not be as easy to answer , but you guy`s are good !!

So here goes:

If I replace my HDD with an SSD , can I use "Trim Enabler" app for trim control ?

Now , will the Mac temp sensor that I stick onto the SSD , will that be good enough
to control fan speed and temp ? or do I need a software app?

Next thing is kind of tricky :

My 2.4 Dual Core , is what it is , not that fast , BUT , will it be good enough , when coupled with an SSD , to run OX -X.8.3 and Mac gaming apps ( App Store / only ).

The only reason I ask is that the new Mac Mini`s don`t have a dedicated GPU , but have a fast CPU. So Would a faster SSD help to compensate for the lack of processing power of my 2.4 Dual Core CPU.

A real quandary.

Right now / 2 partitions / 1 booting 10.6.8 the other M-L 8.3 and ML runs slow ,
SL runs A-OK

So there it is guy`s , should you choose to accept this challenge , well , thanks !

Take care , :D

Adding an SSD vs. the 2.5" laptop drive in any mini will be much faster overall. As for TRIM, everything that I have read, SandForce SSDs do not need it. According to MacSales.com, it will actually be detrimental for the drive. I believe that the SandForce drives take care of the cleanup inside of their firmware.

Best bet is to google the issue and decide for yourself. In any case, adding an SSD will eliminate the slowest bottleneck in the system for I/O. Check for page outs and add memory to 8GB if you need it.

the stick on tape has worked just fine on machines of mine that were 6-7 years old.

Hi Guy`s ,

Many thanks for your help and suggestions.

Have a great day ! :D

do you use the internal dvd in your machine?
how much ram is in your machine?
do you want to continue to use 10.6.8 snow?

that 2.4 mac mini sells at a high premium you can close to 500 for it on ebay. if you want gaming in a mini you want this mini

or this mini

Below is a link for a sold mini same as yours look at the premium price I got for it.

to me if you do not want snow leopard.
if you do not want a built in dvd.

advertise your mini like I did if you have 8gb ram in it and no longer have applecare you will get 500 to 525 easy. if you have the warranty in effect you will get more. then buy the 2011 mini with the gpu. far better way to go. lets say you clear 525 for your mini and buy the 2011 from apple at 549 you lay out 75 after tax grab some ram and have a 2011 under warranty that will slap your mini siily. even drop in an ssd for another 125.

NOTE MODS I am not selling that mini it has been sold. I just wanted to let the op have a better or a least different choice of making his mini setup closer to his goal.
