Just peeked at the Apple Store and they actually have refurbs of the 2010 Mini's! Get em while they're hot!!
$599. for 2.4
$849. for 2.66 Server

Depending on sales tax (7.75% in my case), the refurb Minis are only ~$25 less than buying new from a reseller like MacMall. If you live in a state without sales tax though, it'd be nice to get a Mini for what they used to charge ;).

They used to charge $499 for them... new...

And discrete graphics, too! I remember the keynote ("year of HD" and all that). Macworld 2005.... seems forever ago...

Incidentally, a few weeks ago they were selling 2.0GHz refurb Minis for $499.

They are back again.

Just last week they had a selection of 7 different mac minis. It was the most I had ever seen on there at once....including the old $499 machine.

I am just sitting on the fence deciding what to do. I'm really watching for a 4GB new mini to show up. Not sure how they'll price that one, but waiting to see......

got mine

I've had that refurb mini page bookmarked ever since they came out with the new ones. I've been checking it every chance i got hopeing they would have a deal on the server. Very happy to see one appear this morning and immediately ordered. I cant wait to hook this up to my 32 inch samsung 1080p hdtv. I'll be using my onkyo sound system for sound.

But... the ram's so easy to replace... :D

You can get 8gb for ~$200 at newegg as well.

If the premium is <$100 though, it might be worth it to get one with a pre-installed upgrade.

Exactly my thoughts, too! That's why I'm waiting to see one posted. If the price is right, it will be worth it. After all the memory compatibility issues with my MacBook, I'm kind of paranoid about adding my own memory to Macs now.

Apple-branded RAM is always best, though I've not had a problem with properly-spec'd 3rd party memory over the years.

Just out of curiosity, how much RAM do you have in your system currently? For a brief time I moved up from a 2GB Core Duo iMac to an i5 iMac with 4GB, and all OS X did was give more RAM to existing programs (for example Safari would take up over 800mb instead of 450mb with the same number of tabs), so I ended up swapping at roughly the same workload as when I had 2GB. I might be a unique case, but just thought it was worth mentioning. If nothing else, it convinced me to get at least 8gb in whatever new Mac I get down the road.

That sounds like the Circuit City salesman who recommended the old couple get a Sony DVD player to best match up with their Sony TV. Kingston, Crucial, OWC and any major brand RAM should perform fine. Apple does not make their own RAM -- my stock RAM was Hynix from Korea, and I have never heard of them, let alone them being the best.

Naw....that Circuit City salesman recommended the Sony DVD player because it spiffed the best. He was thinking with his wallet.

Tell me more about this $200 8GB memory. I've been seeing it closer to $300 when I've been looking around. (and yes, I gave in and bought the standard Mini at Best Buy - 2 Year no interest financing on Macs sealed the deal for me)

I got this 4gb chip from ewiz for about $100 a couple weeks ago. Looks like they are a little cheaper now.
