hi guys, i'm looking at used mac pro on fleabay and found significant price difference between the single core and dual cpu, i find this shocking consider a xeon 5650 which the 2010 and 2012 models uses can be had for a mere 80 bucks.

is there a socket thats unoccupied on the single cpu setup just laying there? or is it more complicated then that, from what i have read it seems the cpu and ram is not on the logic board but on a separate tray.

There is no unused socket. Look for 2.26GHz 2009 8-core models if you want a bargain.
