I have a 2010 MP and have set it to put itself to sleep after 30min. Whatever I do it just doesn't sleep.

If I manually put it to sleep by going :apple:>sleep then it sleeps fine until I wake it. Same if I push the power button.

It just doesn't sleep automatically. I have tried it with all applications closed except Finder, this make no difference.

I didn't have any problems with my iMac, just with the Mac Pro.

Any ideas anyone??

Unplug/disable all external devices (USB, FW, BT, ethernet) and try again. If MP autosleeps, keeping plugging them back one by one to identify the culprit. If this does not solve the problem, see if MP autosleeps when you're logged in to another account (preferably a brand new one).

I have tried closing all the apps and this does nothing. I'll try disconnecting the ethernet cable and see if that makes a difference.

I don't have anything else plugged into the MP other than the displays and their USB cables. Could it be the USB hubs on the Apple displays. I have a 27" and 2 x 23"?

Might as well, you have nothing to lose. Disconnect the ethernet and the 2 23s leaving just the 27". Reboot the machine and then reset the SMC and PRAM. See what happens now.

Just install PleaseSleep and forget about it.... you can try some simple things as suggested, but if that doesn't fix it, don’t waste too much time on it.

In my experience, sleep issues in macs occur far too often. I've come home after a long weekend just to find out the computer awoke and stayed on the whole time. I've wasted quite some time trying to figure out what kept them awake, but I've never come to pin the problem permanently. And suddenly, for no apparent reason, it goes back to normal again! Frustrating.

PleaseSleep is a must-have... works better than the energy settings. It ensures your mac goes to sleep and stays that way, but allows you to wake it remotely or by programmed schedules (eg. eyetv recordings). It's non intrusive with quicktime or VLC while watching movies, and also allows you to set a timer and set rules to customize it. Works like a charm, and it's free!

The only problem - a horrible menu icon, but I replaced that ;)

cheers!
