Resolved 2010 Macbook Pro Ram

Hi Guys,

I have searched but haven't found a definitive answer.

I have 16GB of ram, from my 13" Macbook pro Early 2011, and i'm wondering if it will work in a 13" Mid 2010?

I know that 2010 specifies for a slower ram speed, but i've read conflicting information on if it will work. Some people saying it won't work, some people saying it will and the mac will configure it to run on the lower speed.

Unfortunately the 2010 MB isn't mine, so i can't just test it myself. I've put the ram for sale, and someone wants to buy the modules from me, and i want to make sure they work before i commit to the sale?



The ram i have;

Crucial 16GB kit;

16GB kit (8GBx2) DDR3 PC3-10600 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V 1024Meg x 64

(DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 • lead free • halogen free)



Mid 2010 13" MB Pro specs from everymac;

RAM Type: PC3-8500 DDR3 Min. RAM Speed: 1066 MHz

Details: Supports 1066 MHz PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM.




Any information would greatly appreciated.

The 2010 13" models will work with 16GB of RAM, but they're really picky about the RAM speed and timing. You could try it, but I've read that it only works with the 1066MHz PC3-8500 RAM.

i had this problem early on when i first got my 2010 13"MBP, i bought (2) PNY 4gb RAM module that ran @ 1333MHz but was able to clock down to 1066MHz. it read fine with the one stock 1066MHz module(2gb) for a total of 6gb, but once i replaced the other 2gb module with the PNY 4gb module it didn't read either modules. so after more researching, as T5BRICK mentioned the Mid-2010 13" MBP are indeed RAM speed specific if you want to reach 8GB or higher.

the ram in your 2011 MBP will not work with the 2010 MBP.

it only works with the 1066MHz PC3-8500 RAM.
