Need more details to debug. But my new MBA seems to get at least as good reception as the MBP, so it's not a problem with this model.

Try resetting the Airport. Perhaps its something with the configuration of that, rather than the Air.

i just checked with them and they say nothing has changed. i took a friends iphone that has never connected to this network and connected fine. so i go back to my mba and the airport list only lists some neighbors network that barely has a signal. so i type in my ssid and password it takes a minute comes back saying invalid password but i know the password is correct. so i go to the prefered list and put it in there it tried to connect to it a couple times then says timed out.

You say you checked with "them". Who, it's not your network? You can setup a network to allow only specific hardware addresses (MAC addresses) to connect to them (mine is setup like this). That's one reason that could be the problem. Since your MBA can see other networks it's not a hardware problem with the MBA.

Post on Apple Discussion groups. Chances of Apple looking there are more.
Go to the nearest Apple Store and have them check your unit out.
