2010 MPB vs 2010 MPA

So I'm looking at selling my 2010 13inch MBP and upgrading to a 13inch MPA "ultimate" (4 gigs of ram, 2.13ghz and 256gigs of flash storage). Right now my MBP has 4 gigs of ram and a 128gig SSD. Does anybody think I would just be better off upgrading to 8 gigs of ram, and would my MBP run just as quick as the ultimate MBA? Sorry I'm kinda new to all of this, but if somebody had any advice, i'd appreciate it! Thanks

Also, I mostly just do school work and play a little bit of Star Craft II, if this helps. Thanks again

I don't think you'd gain much, especially since you already have an SSD. Is your MBP a 2.4 or 2.66?

it already runs faster than the MBA as it is. My advice is just to keep what you have because buying a new 13 MBA will NOT be an upgrade. 8GB of ram will not do anything for simple school work and SC2.

Download and run Xbench on your machine. Post it and compare to my MBA ultimate. This will help you.

That isn't an "upgrade" ................ the only advantage of the air is size/weight.

I own both an upgraded 13" MBP and new 13" MBA.

it's totally an upgrade. it's a laptop. it's a smaller laptop that's more about mobile computing than desktop replacement.

there's no way i'd do the things i do with the mpb that i do without even thinking with the mba.

Yeah, I'm having a similar dilemna. I have a 15" MBP i5 2.4 GHz with hi-def 1650 x 1080 matte screen, and I'm thinking about selling it (after only 5 months....) and buying either the 11" or 13" MBA. The only reason I'm uncertain is because the 11" MBA only includes a 128 GB flash drive, max. If it had a 256 GB option, I would have bought it today.

If you ignore the weight and other benefits of the 13" MBA, then the 13" MBP with SSD is always better.

By all means keep your 13 inch MBP with its 128GB SSD. The performance of a maxed out 13 inch MBA would be indistinguishable to you, the user, from your MBP. You are young and, I assume, healthy, so the weight penalty you pay for keeping your MBP will, it seems to me, be overcome by the avantages of a built in optical drive, FireWire port, gigabit Ethernet port, and upgradeability to 8GB of RAM provided by your MBP.

Although I finally got a maxed out 13 inch MBA to replace my old 17 inch MBP, I seriously considered the 2.4 Ghz 13 inch MBP, upgraded with an SSD and 8GB of RAM. I still really like the 2.14Ghz 13 inch MBP, though. My grandson got one for college, uses it heavily, and loves it. They are dandy machines.
