Hey all. I've got a 27" 2011 iMac with 16GB RAM and the OEM 1TB HDD. I want to move the SSD from my old 2008 24" iMac into it because the SSD even on the SATAII port will be faster than the OEM drive. If I remember correctly, I had to purchase a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter from OWC, so I could install the SSD in the 3.5" bay, but I may want to install windows on this in the future...

I'd like to move the 1TB HDD into my 2010 cMP, but I read that without some kind of drive in the iMac, fans will go crazy. I don't really need a drive in there, but I have some apple branded drives in the 250GB range. I assume that even if I do stick that older drive in there, I'll still need the 3rd-party kit from OWC to make it happen.

Can anyone confirm this? Is putting the SSD under the ODD the best way to do it? Am i crazy?
