Hey guys, i currently have a base model 2011 mac mini with 8gb of ram and a samsung 830 256gb ssd.

Should i upgrade to the base 2012? If not should i keep mine and upgrade to 16gb of ram?

Thanks

I personally would say no to upgrading unless you are in dire need of USB 3.0. Other than that you have a really nice machine that you can certainly get a few more years out of.

Certainly can't hurt. I would watch your activity monitor during normal usage and see if how full your ram gets and if you have an page outs. If it almost completely used or you are getting excessive page outs then yes.

What do you do with your pc?

snowcake has asked the correct question.

Also 8gb with an ssd is pretty fast. you only need go to 16gb ram if you get a lot of page outs and swaps.

notice no page outs or swap on my activity monitor.

so i have not exceeded my ram.

if you are 10 percent or less no need

Do you find your current Mini inadequate in any way?

If not, why bother?

If so, does it irk you enough to want to spend another several hundred $?

If you NEED usb 3 and HD4000 then yes, otherwise(and this is on the assumption that you'll be going base to base) there's no real point.
Just bump up the ram if anything

Going from base 2011 to base 2012 doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. RAM and SSD are going to make way more of a difference.

We all get bitten by the upgrade bug from time to time; sometimes it's best just to ignore it. :)

Good advice! I WANT the 2012 mini and the iPad4, but i have to realize that my 2011 mini and iPad3 are more than adequate.
