2011 iMac 27": Anyone tried booting from Thunderbolt Dock HDD?

Hi folks,

I've set up a 3-SSD 2011 iMac 27" (2 SATA3 SSDs in RAID0, 1 SATA2 SSD in DVD bay).

I'm wondering if anyone has tried to boot an external drive (like a Windows Boot Camp drive) attached to a Thunderbolt Dock:

1. Would it be recognized as a bootable drive in Boot Camp / holding Option at startup?
   
   
2. How's the performance for either an HD or SSD connected to Thunderbolt?

I'm not using a dock, but I am using an SSD attached to the Thunderbolt port (I also have a 27" 2011 iMac) and it works great. I'm using it as my boot/OS drive, the internal spinner is just storing media.
