I have a 2011 27" iMac, which has started to display (?!) a black screen on a very regular basis. When this happens, any processing which has been going on, appears to continue successfully in the background. If I press the power switch on the back of the unit, the screen returns to a normal display, sometimes for a long time, but most frequently only for a short period. It may be a coincidence, but the problem seemed to start after I updated to High Sierra (?). I've tried booting in safe mode, and I've also taken to running fan control (based on feedback from other sources). The hi-rev fan noise which my iMac used to exhibit before updating to High Sierra, also dropped away after the upgrade, and I wonder if there's any relationship to these two matters. At times when my frustration level gets too high, I either restart or reboot my iMac, but the problem usually returns fairly quickly. If I leave my iMac switched off fora long period of time, and then reboot it, the problem sometimes takes longer period of time to return. Help !

Foir minme HS is designed for Solid State and Flash drives. Are you using a slow old spinner which may not be keeping up?
[doublepost=1513370257][/doublepost]I guess that's possible. If that's the case, perhaps I need to re-install the earlier Sierra version of the operating system. Before doing that (given that it's a bit of a hassle), I'd be keen to hear from others, as to whether that's the likely root cause.
