I have a new 2011 mini that hands on the gray boot screen when I start it up with an external usb hard drive attached. If I start it up and then attach the drive it works fine. It is an externaly power drive do it's not drawing too much from the usb port. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem too. It doesn't actually hang, it's just really slow in booting up. Give it a while and it does boot up eventually.

No solutions here tho.

Good to know it boots eventually. How long does it take?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

You need to set the startup disk. Just google 'set startup disk osx'. Once this is done you'll boot fast every time

That didn't work. The only drive that shows up to select to boot from is my main drive which is selected as the boot drive. Any other ideas?
