2011 Mac Mini... HDMI to DVI Adapter Broken?

Hey folks,

I just picked up a 2011 Mac Mini with the 2.5ghz Dual Core i5. I tried booting it up using a Sceptre 20" LCD via DVI using the included HDMI to DVI adapter and I don't get any video output. The LCD does not get any signal from the Mac Mini. Is there a compatibility issue with older DVI ports? I normally have my Power Mac G5 connected to the LCD and it's fine. I set up the Mac Mini in my guest room using an HDMI cable to an HDTV and it works. I'm wondering if I have a faulty HDMI to DVI adapter or something. Anyone else run into this issue?

I'm interested in knowing if this still works. I want to get a mini but I would face the same issue as you as my monitor has a full size dvi input. Need to know if this is indeed a problem for all.
 
I ran the 2.3 mini hdmi adapter to dvi cable to monitor with no problems. so your adapter or your cable is dead. could be the mini could be the monitor. I guess adaptor or cable
 
Works for me. Note this is single-link DVI from HDMI so only supports up to 1920x1080 resolution. If your monitor is higher you need the mdp to dvi or dual-link DVI adapter.
 
Can you check on-line or from the manual, what standard the DVI of your monitor is ? DVI-D, DVI-I etc.
 
The best way to check this is to try the Mini with the HDMI to DVI adapter on another DVI display. If it doesn't work then you know it's most likely the adapter. If it does then you know it's a compatibility issue with your display.
 
I plugged my iPad 2 into the DVI monitor via HDMI adapter, Mac Mini HDMI to DVI adapter, then DVI cable to LCD. It worked fine. Makes me wonder if I have a bad HDMI port in the Mac Mini...
 
I have a similar issue - Just purchased two server mini's for our Church AV system... Had both plugged into HDMI on a cheap 27" TV for testing... Worked fine...

Then I plugged in a VGA to Minidisplayport adapter into the thunderbolt port and could not get output on a second display.... the machine would "act" like it saw the other display, but no signal was sent. No joy in either mirrored or extended desktop modes...

My theory is that since HDMI was used first, it wants to send a digital signal... since VGA is analog, its not sending correctly.... Planning to call Apple in the next day or so if this isn't resolved...
 
I have the same problem. No picture with the adapter, which by the way works fine with my Twix, but I get picture if I connect the mini to my display directly with a hdmi cable. Tried with two different adapters (hdmi/dvi) and they don't work with the mini. However the mini recognizes the display and can provide information (brand and model) but won't display picture. The monitor just says "no signal" when connected to the mini with dvi
 
I have a very similar problem with my 2011 mini with the Radeon GPU.

Connecting my DGM 24" monitor using the HDMI/DVI adapter, when I switch on I get the grey screen/ apple logo/ spinning wheel but then the screen just goes black and the monitor says no signal received. The same monitor works fine on a PC and an older mini when DVI connected. Booting in safe mode doesn't help.

I have a no-name 20" monitor which works fine when connected through the HDMI/ DVI adaptor and the same DVI cable, so it's not as simple as a broken adaptor.

I've raised a call with Apple but not heard back yet.

Apple tech just called me back, (I'm really impressed) he said that engineering has got gobs of feedback on this issue now(two days ago they acted like I was the only one, so thanks to those who called to report) and they are on it. Not sure what they plan to do but I hope that the fix will be in 10.7.1 as it's release is imminent( I got the 10.7.2 developer seed the other day,no fix there) he did say to keep watch for software updates. I restored to Snow Leopard so I could at least use my mini, so I'm just gonna watch the blogs they usually break the story for every software update. Or one could just go to the App store and see which version is being sold. I will then re-install and hope they fixed the bug.
