Just wondering, I have a Mid 2011 Mac Mini that had 8 gig of memory. I really don't need a new one as this one is still rocking plenty fast. But I noticed it would get quite warm but not enough for me to be concerned about as it's on my desk with plenty of ambient air around it.

So... I decided it was time to upgrade it to a full 16 Gig (no reason needed right?). Purchased memory from my favorite company Crucial. Installed with no problems. Now it's running noticeably cooler. Right now I'm not really stressing it as I'm playing music and doing typical office stuff and web surfing.

Not complaining mind you, but I wonder if anyone else has ever noticed this.

Now, if you haven't done so, through out the spinner and install an SSD. Easy-peasy. No adapters, special brackets etc. Not only will it run even cooler but there will be a noticeable speed bump.

Depending on the size, $45 to $250 for 2TB.

As long as you don't need Mojave, it'll run practically forever.

Yea, it can happen. Depends on how you're working it.

SSD's ROCK! I have one as my main drive, and the old 7200 spinner holds all of my music and projects. Everything is backed up to an external USB drive via Time Machine.

I also have 8Gb in my mid 2011 Mac Mini with dual internal SSD array and thanks to the SSDs, it is plenty fast still for what I do. Also noticed it was getting warmer doing the heavy duty processing like iMovie and DXO Photo Lab 2 but have plenty of ambient air to cool it down. I haven't thought about upgrading the Mini since I'm not sure if I want to put down more money for not much of a performance boost, but will I really get a performance boost going from 8Gb of ram to 16Gb? Do you notice a performance boost yourself with 16Gb of RAM?

Anyways, thanks for sharing your experiences and it's good to know that the Mini with 16Gb of ram is much cooler than with 8Gb.
