Hey guys!
So I have a late-2011 MacBook Pro, which of course had its AMD GPU broken, so I've disabled it.
And the MacBook itself with its 16GBs of RAM and a 2.4 quad-core i7 works just great on Mojave.
However, if I wanna do some serious tasks on this machine, I'd need an eGPU.

The problem is I don't know, if a Thunderbolt 3 eGPU with scripts and TB3-TB2/1 adapter will work.

I've heard, that you cannot output video (thru Thunderbolt) with AMD GPU disabled, however I don't know, if connecting an external GPU will work.
Do you know, if it will work?
Thanks in advance,
Mormislaw

Yeah. Mine works great with Aorus gaming box with failed dGPU. However, I am using Sierra, which will likely be never change as I am not sure if eGPU script works for other OSX.

A MR member once mentioned that it does work in this post. You may need to downgrade to Sierra though.
Thank you for your answers! Now there's another question: what is the cheapest eGPU enclosure?

At the tine I got it, it was Aorus 1070 gaming box. Most others, you have to buy the enclosure and a graphics card separate. With Aorus, it was all in one. I believe there is Aorus 1080 version now.

Hi,

I m having a problem with my macbook pro 15 2011 with faulty gpu, i tried to set the nvram variable and delete the AMDRadeaonX3000.kext file, the procedure worked well on my early 2011 macbook pro but it did not work well on the late 2011 ? When i set the nvram variable the late 2011 screen go black and stays black until i reset the pram settings (ctrl+cmd+p+r), so cannot disable the dgpu.

btw i have disabled the gpu of many macs 2011 model as described br MacAppleFinder and the procedure worked flawlesly. However with this particular mac the screen goes black when i enter the single user mode and set the ram variable:

nvram fa4ce28d-b62f-4c99-9cc3-6815686e30f9:gpu-power-prefs=%01%00%00%00

Do you know where the problem can come from? Why my screen goes black when i set the ram variable to igpu (%01%00%00%00) ? Can anyone help me with that? I did not find anything about on the net

Thanks
