2011 Mini - shuts down when waking from sleep

I have the new mini (2.3ghz) and had a problem from the very beginning with it shutting down every time I went to wake it from sleep.

I took it to the Genius Bar and my Genius couldn't re-create the problem and suggested I must be losing power at home - but I knew this wasn't the problem because all other peripherals plugged into the same power bar were working fine and have never lost power.

I went home defeated and tried again. It shut down on my very first try. So I tried to re-create the Genius' environment and first thing I did was unplug my USB hub. And it worked.

My USB hub is self-powered (i.e. has its own power adapter).

So my question is, does anyone know why my USB hub would make my Mini shutdown when waking?

yes the mini has very tight power supply overhead. It has a 85 watt internal power supply
inside of it. you usb hub draws too much juice on the one socket into the mini's usb bank. since the mini does not have a lot of power in it it will tightly regulate what you pull and shut the machine down. What is the exact usb hub and what was hooked into it. In a minute i will post links that most people on this site did not like but they are an effort to explain a flaw with the mini's internal psu.

now understand I am a huge fan of this machine and the 2011 is the most powerful machine they have made. The flaws are not the dvd drive missing as much as the 2gb ram in the base machine and a psu that is very close to its limits.

I was able to draw 55 watts on a 2.7 model running hand brake an external airbook dvd player and a wired apple keyboard. No fw800 plugged in and no usb hub add them I would have been at 75 watts and I am sure the machine would have shut down.

It's a Lexma 7 port hub that I bought for $7 on clearance at Walmart so it's really not a big deal if I can't use it anymore. It used to work fine though on my 2007 mini.

I had a printer (turned off), 3 external hard drives (turned off) and my ipod cable (no ipod plugged in) all connected to the hub.

Thanks for your help. I'm glad I wasn't just going crazy, as the Genius made it seem. Surprised, but not, that he couldn't figure this one out, especially since the brick was also missing from the last gen.

I have never tried to resurrect a thread this old before, but I had to say something. I just got my brand new Late 2012 2.6 Mac Mini last night. It's great, except it kept shutting down every time I tried to wake it from sleep. I too just got back from the Genius bar where they *first* ran a bunch of tests and permissions and *then* went to see if I still had the problem. Of course, there was no problem I thought they fixed it. Got home, it fell asleep, and then the power went off again. Thanks to this awesome post I tried unplugging my USB Hub and everything works fine now! Yay!

So, my Medialink 4-Port Powered Hub is not working. I've been trying to figure out if any hub will reliably work. I read a ton of promising reviews on Amazon about the Plugable 10-Port Powered USB Hub. Fortunately, my in-laws have it and live down the street. I headed over there, borrowed it and just tested it on my Mac Mini and it is working perfectly. Whether plugging in Hard Drives or Mice or the printer or all at once, it is working! Just placed my order on Amazon.
