2012 27" imac heat issue

So I am getting a lot of heat coming from my new 2012 imac. To the point that its making my desktop area uncomfortable. I have not gotten any shutdowns or anything like that but I have noticed the fan runs consistantly when under load. Mainly am playing titan quest (via steam) and diablo 3 in Windows boot camp. I have tried to run diagnostics in mac side but the holding down D key results in a weird error: Error: 0x80000000000000003, cannot load 'EFI/Drivers/TestSupport.efi' Status: 0x00000003

Version 10.11.6

Late 2012 imac 27"
Processor: 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7
Memory 16gb 1600 Mhz DDR3
Startup Disk 750gb Apple SSD
Graphics Nvidia GeForce GTX 680MX 2048mb

One thing I have noticed is that on the windows side not all the drivers loaded when I installed boot camp for example smc controller host and bluetooth (sorry dont have it up right now) something or rather have the typical windows exclamation triangle next to them.

I have that Mac with almost the same specs.

I am sure there is some type of Fan Control SW for Windows, maybe set the thresholds so the fan comes on sooner than they are needed to keep things a little cooler before hitting the heavy loads.


Also, your iMac is 8 years old, and that is 8 years of dust building up. Maybe it might be worth it to open and clean up the dust.

While it is open, you could add a second SSD in the SATA HDD spot. It would probably run cooler and faster than your current SSD.

I have noticed the fan seems to come on almost immediately when just playing a game in windows. However in the mac environment the same game does not seem to trigger the fan to come on or if it is its not coming on at all.

Additionally I purchased this unit refurbished so I would think they cleaned out the dust no? It was purchased from experimax. Would I have to remove the monitor to do a dusting (I really hope not that looks like a great way to break this thing lol).

Probably, If it was refurbished by Apple.

At least in the US, there are no consumer laws governing what is considered "refurbished".

Third-party refurbished products could be considered refurbished simply because they wiped the outside case down with a damp cloth. Instantly refurbished.
