I have an iMac "Core i7" 3.4 27-Inch (Late 2012) with a 1TB Fusion Drive.

I am looking to upgrade it from the current 1TB Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 to a 10TB Fusion Drive using a 10TB Seagate BarraCuda Pro ST10000DM0004.

Would this work? I searched for an answer online and most replies I have found point to compatibility in terms of power consumption and thermals of the replacement drives.

Other than that it was also mentioned I need to buy a OWC In-line Digital Thermal Sensor so the iMac's HSF won't run at full speed all the time.

Forgive my ignorance but where would the SSD portion of the fusion drive go? I don't believe the 2012 has an optical drive where you can put the spinning hard drive and then replace the existing HD with an SSD. I also don't think these models initially came with the blade SSDs that are now current in iMacs.

This is the iMac where Fusion Drives first came out.

So I am retaining the 128GB blade SSD and just swapping out the 1TB HDD for a 10TB one.

I need help in determining compatibility of the drive.
