2012 Kernel Panic with Quicktime

Hey All,

I've had my 2012 since it debuted and I was wondering if there are a good amount of users that suffer form kernel panics with quicktime. When i'm playing video and multitasking, I realize that I get random kernel panics.

Originally, I suspected it may have to do with my RAID0 setup, but it seems that through searching the internet, that kernel panics do happen on certain setups and running quicktime.

Anyone else have that issue?
 
1. What do you mean by "running QuickTime". Do you mean just playing audio or video in QuickTime Player? Can you play video in other OS X apps that use QuickTime, like iTunes and Finder Preview?
2. Test the problem in a brand new user account. This will pinpoint whether it is a system-wide issue, or a user issue. If it's a user issue, it'll be caused by something in your user Library folder, like a cache, corrupt preference or Login Item that's conflicting.
3. Have you installed any software that gets its hooks into the system? hardware drivers, keyboard macros, Audio Hijack, Little Snitch, that kind of thing?
4. Read the Kernel Panic logs. You can find them in the Console utility. It may look like gobbledygook, but it may constantly mention something like IOUSB, or Audio, or some particular bit of software.
5. RAID 0? Why? Minimal performance gain for twice the failure rate.
 
None panics with quicktime here, and your post is the first I've seen about it, so your situation is not common.

QuickTime uses some system/kernel functions, so it is possible that you have defective RAM. Please use Apples hardware test:

When I watch xvid or mkv videos, it's not consistent pattern, but it seems to only happen when I play videos while multitasking and doing other tasks. I have tried using vlc and it does not give me kernel panics, at least in the last 3 days of watching videos and doing other tasks on the computer.

I haven't installed any of the above, but I do have other menubar items going (e.g. dropbox, fantastical, moom, sparrow, teamviewer).

I thought RAID0 with double performance of write and read would be worth it. I've had zero issues with my 2011 raid0 samsung 830 drives. Not worth it?
 
Looks like you might want to check that your RAM is seated correctly in the slots.
