Hi folks

Sorry for the vague post; but my 2012 Mini just shut down of it's own accord! First off I thought I'd lost Bluetooth connection with my Magic Mouse, but then the Mac just restarted

It's a 2012 i& Mini running 16GB Crucial RAM, a 256GB SSD and the OEM 1TB HDD as a FusionDrive

The error details are as below (beware; theres a lot of info):

What you experienced is called a "kernel panic" and it could occur because of software or hardware issues. Sometimes it's pretty easy to pinpoint a likely suspect by going through the kernel panic report but in your case, what's being reported may have a variety of causes. My best guess, and it's not a great guess, is that something connected to the USB bus caused the problem. This could be a USB device, it could also be the IR Receiver or Bluetooth as both also use the USB bus. Your kernel panic, given the same hardware/software, may recur every so often, it may never happen again. If you are using a new USB or bluetooth device, that may be the cause. If it happens regularly (say, once a day or more often), it's actually easier to figure out what it is because you can take steps to figure out what it is and then if doesn't happen within a few days, you can be pretty sure that was the cause. In your case, if it happens once a week and you want to see if it's the bluetooth mouse causing the issue, it really means getting a new mouse so you can see if that's the issue.

You should run the Apple Hardware test (shut down the computer, restart holding down the D key after the chime). If that doesn't show any issues, wait to see if the kernel panic recurs. If it does, you can take it to an Apple store (maybe make an appointment before it does just because it may be difficult to get appointments at the Genius Bar). Or, depending on what other USB/bluetooth devices you have, try removing them, but, as I noted before that may not be acceptable to you if the kernel panics don't happen very often.

There may also be an issue with 10.11.5. You could also be on the lookout on the Internet for reports with problems similar to yours. I have a similar 2012 Mini except it's the 2.6 Ghz model and so far it's been very stable (don't have a bluetooth device, though).

Thats a brilliant/informative reply, thank you!

I'll do the restart and hardware test later this evening/tomorrow morning and see if that kicks up anything!

I do wonder if it was the mouse as that went dead on me and then the Mac restarted; coincidence maybe etc...

The only new addition to the system is a NAD D1050 DAC connected via USB, but that's been connected for 3 weeks and no issues at all!

Will see what the test kicks up, if anything!

Thanks

What's typical of the kernel panics I've experienced (which never had anything to do with the mouse or keyboard) is that the keyboard/mouse stop responding while the screen still remains for a few seconds and then it restarts. So it sounds like what you experienced fits this pattern so I wouldn't put a great deal of emphasis on the mouse not responding. I did a quick search of "NAD D1050 kernel panic" and nothing relevant showed up - it's probably not that.
