2012 Mac Mini & mDP only display

Hi all,

Is there a way to force the 2012 Mac Mini to only use the Thunderbolt/Mini-Display Port as the primary video? I plug my new 2560* monitor into it and nothing happens. HDMI still works with my old monitor, and when I plug in the new monitor along with the old monitor the mDP port becomes active, but when I unplug HDMI it goes blank again.

Thoughts?

Does the new monitor work with the HDMI disconnected?

I've used an Asus PB278Q on miniDP as my sole monitor for three years now. Works great.

Have you verified the monitor and cable work okay on another system?

I've been using my 2012 Mini with only a mini DisplayPort display since I bought it back in 2012.

I've been using my 2012 Mini with only a mini DisplayPort display since I bought it back in 2012.

Same here, rarely use hdmi, mini DisplayPort works fine by itself, both in DisplayPort and Thunderbolt mode.

If all else fails you may consider a clean install of Sierra/whatever you are using. It is possible a kext driver got messed up at some point.

Should be a no-brainer to get the monitor working. I know these are stupid questions, but are you sure the correct input is selected on the monitor, and have you tired a different displayport cable ? - I have had occasional issues with displayport cables - they're not all the same quality.

I've had no problems hooking up my 2010, 2011 and 2012 Minis to 30" 2560x1600 monitors (I have 4 of these around the house) and 2560x1440 monitors.

Got it sorted. Not sure what was happening but it's all good now.
