2012 Mac Mini to Crossover 27QD 27" 2560x1440

Does anybody have this working successfully?

I have tried a Monoprice adapter: http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=6904&seq=1&format=2

and Accell Adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Accell-UltraAV-B087B-002B-DisplayPort-Dual-Link/dp/B002ISVI3U

and now are going to try a http://www.amazon.com/Kanex-MDPC30-DisplayPort-Adapter-Display/dp/B0045I85GY

The issue is that it never really powers on the monitor. It tries, and the monitor turns on for a split second and then shuts off. It then waits about 20 seconds and tries again.

THIS IS THE KICKER:
I installed Windows 8 in a bootcamp partition, and the monitor works fine. There is something in OS X (Mountain Lion) that is not making this work. Does anybody have any ideas? The adapter hooks up into the Thunderbolt/Mini Displayport and a USB port.

Why would this work in Bootcamp with the same hardware, but not in OS X?

It's only about $125 more than the QD, but has a crap load more ports including a displayport which would only have required a cheap MDP to DP cable. Considering you are looking at spending $100 for the MDP to Dual DVI cable, that means you could have been trouble free for about $30 more.

or for about $100 more than then Crossover 2720MDP you could have gotten a Dell 2713HM....

Haven't tried the apple version yet, but I've heard bad reviews.

As for the monitor, YES, I wish I would have gotten the other one, but looks like it's too late now.

I believe the Apple version gets a bad rap due to an earlier firmware that wasn't up to snuff. I could be wrong though. Frankly you haven't gotten any of the "other" ones to work, so maybe giving the Apple one a try will fix the problem. If you have an Apple store near you, you could pick it up, try it, and if it doesn't work return it.

The thing that really is weird though is the fact that it worked in Bootcamp, on the same hardware.

When I boot into OSX, I can sometimes get to the login screen, and after I login is when it turns off.

Have you tried keeping the monitor disconnected until after you log in? I know that helps with some DisplayPort-related power issues on a Dell monitor I have.

I've tried possibly every single combination of powering on Mini and Monitor, but nothing seems to work.

The only thing that works is booting into Bootcamp. Same Hardware, different OS, different results. Is OSX doing anything different to the output signal than Windows is?

i used to use a shimian with my macbook retina 15 and for some reason the monoprice one didn't work so i returned it and got a used apple one from an amazon seller and it worked perfectly i dont have it anymore cause my house got robbed and the jerks took it but yeah the word on the street with those koreans are there friendlier with the apple dual link adapter

So I bought the Apple one, but still a no-go. The monitor stays on for 5 seconds, then turns off, then turns back on for 5 seconds, in an endless cycle.

Has anyone found a resolution to this problem? I am running into a similar issue, but with the Monoprice 27 Crystal Pro. It boots fine right into Bootcamp Windows but can't get the monitor to in iOS. The computer shuts off at the login screen. It acts like the login screen is an incompatible resolution. (perhaps a different refresh rate?)

I'm going to try the official Apple adapter tomorrow. I am currently using the Monoprice one (PID 6904)

Monoprice CrystalPro 27 not working with my Mac Mini (late 2012)

I just got my new Monoprice CrystalPro 27 inch monitor and it does not work correctly with my Mac Mini (Late 2012) - I have the official Apple MiniDisplay Port to Dual Link DVI Adapter and the monitor is recognized on boot by my Mac, then once I get to the log-in screen (and any after) the monitor cycles from on with my desktop (looks amazing), to sleep (light goes to Red), then back to on and then back to asleep (cycle never stops). I'm working with Monoprice support but so far no resolution. The reviews on the Mini-Display Port to Dual Link DVI adapters (both Apples and Monoprices) aren't all that great, so perhaps it's just something flaky with the technology to convert using this super high resolution? Anyone else having these issues with their Mac?

I haven't tried BootCamp, but the monitor works PERFECTLY on my windows 7 PC currently. It just looks amazing!!!!

I just want to get the dang thing working with my MAC!!!!!!

I haven't been able to resolve the exact same issue. Some observations though:

I have had NO success getting the monitor to work stable with either the official Apple adapter or the Monoprice adapter using:

Late 2012 Mac Mini (Intel HD4000 graphics)
2011 Mac Air (Intel HD3000 graphics)
2010 Macbook pro (Nvidia Geforce 320M) on OSX 10.6.8

Here's the weird part:

It works with the 2012 Mac Mini in Windows bootcamp.

and the even stranger part:

It works with a different 2010 Macbook pro (Nvidia 320M) on OSX 10.8.3 only using the Apple adapter. The monoprice adapter will not work with this macbook.

As the previous poster asked...Anyone figure out this mystery?

@laserpipes - does any of your other macs non compatible with the monitor run on 10.8.3 ?

I have the same problem on my macbook pro - 2009 -10.6.8 / Nvidia geforce 9600M GT

with the apple dual dvi adapter, it is the same issue as bleepjay:- 3 secs on, 3 secs off ...
with other mini displayport to dvi-d adapters there's no image at all

I think there must be a problem in the drivers or the osx version

by reading your comments & other forums, what seems to be excluded :
- the adapter is fine, works under win
- graphic card is capable of supporting the monitor & resolution - works under win
- no resolution/frequency issue - even the lowest of resolutions fails, and I can not find suitiable working settings under switchresX ...

So my only lead here is that just maybe a newer OS would fix this ... can anyone test with the 10.8.3 on a previsously not compatible system ?

hello all - I just solved the problem on my macbook pro by upgrading to Mountain lion 10.8.4 from snow Leopard 10.6.8/ - Monitor works just fine

For info :
- using crossover 27qd monitor @ 2560x1440
- macbook pro 2009 with Nvidia gforce 960m GT
- energy saver set at best performance (battery & power adapter)
- using apple dual dvi adapter firmware 10.3

voila! Thank you all for your comments and shared experiences and thanks to lasepipes that gave me the hope that maybe an upgraded osx version may work...
