2012 Mac Mini won't recognize external HD... help!

I just purcahsed a 2012 Base model Mac mini and for some reason it won't recognize my WD Passport external HD. Nothing even shows up in the finder. When I plug it into my Airport Extreme Base Station it has no trouble accessing it, and my Macbook Pro can see it also.

Am I doing something wrong?

Open Disk Utility on your Mac Mini and look if you can see your external hdd then. If you see it, check the disk and if necessary repair it.
