So I was curious if I should stick to Catalina for my 2012 MacBook Pro or use a patcher and upgrade to Monterey or Ventura. I use the machine for everyday email, browsing, word processing, and the occasional game of chess. It's running 16GB of RAM and has a 1TB SSD drive. I just want to make sure I can continue to use Chrome on the machine for awhile longer until I get a newer Mac. Thanks!

I would recommend install Ventura on a separate or external drive and try it first.

Thank you. I installed Ventura. Seems to run fine with zero issues. I think my next step is to install Windows 10 and use it as a Windows machine.

Any idea how long the displays last on these old Macs? This one looks lightly used.

Well I was going to use this Mac as my daily driver. At first I couldn't decide between using Catalina or Ventura. Ended up using Catalina because Ventura was a bit unstable and slow on the MBP. But after 20+ years of Windows I just find it too difficult to switch to macOS. Looking at using the MCP as a Linux test machine. Just not sure how much life the machine has left. Everything inside looks almost brand new. Hinge is nice and tight. Keyboard and trackpad are just fine. All the ports work. Superdrive works. So i guess it will become a backup machine to my Windows computer. Thanks for all the help so far.
