Well, now that the 2011 MBA is released

I predict

4GB base RAM
256GB SSD by default

Opinions?

I knew threads like this will appear after the release.

ivy bridge - quad core airs! graphics will also be much improved
usb 3.0
perhaps upgradable 512gb ssd
max 8gb ram

that's my take on it, though it's too soon (1 hour after refresh????) to speculate.

Switch off your mac and perhaps take a stroll or do something more meaningful than baiting people in a ludicrous way.

I can see new MBP's having those. Air will probably get minor bump.

Actually now that Apple haven't compelled me with their 2011 MBAs (Vs 2010) I'll indulge a little in idle speculation:

2012 Ultimate 11" MBA
  • Ivy Bridge quad-core 2.2GHz, boosts to 2.9GHz
  • 8GB RAM
  • 512 GB SSD soldered
  • Thunderbolt AND USB 3.0
  • Chassis: Alloy of Liquidmetal, carbon and Justin Bieber's ashes
  • Lighter, Cooler, Black, Thin bezel
  • Retina Display
  • Another year closer to my inevitable demise, if I'm not already dead.

So....

Ivy-Bridge Quad-Core ULV Chips. Ultra-HD Intel Graphics.
Also including OS X Snow Lion with requirements such as 4 Gb Ram, Core-i processor and 30 Gb Free for installation.

Oh and forgot, it will have 2 Gb Ram and 64 Gb SSD

Worst thread ever.
Seriously OP, did you wait for the MBA refresh just so you could start this thread?
Ughh, there's 2 minutes I'll never get back.

If Ivy Bridge is a flop in terms of incremental performance, Apple may choose to wait longer to refresh this time. Remember that there was over 400 days inbetween one of the refreshes.

I could very well see them waiting until early 2013 to do a refresh.

If they do decide to refresh in 2012, then we're looking at Ivy Bridge with integrated graphics. Ivy Bridge is I believe a triple-channel tech (not sure if it's the same in laptops), so we may be looking at 3GB and 6GB configurations. Or possibly 4GB / 8GB if it's dual-channel.

They'll be changing up the appearance slightly on the next revision almost certainly. What I would say they might do is go with a uniform screen like the Macbook Pro where it's all covered by glass: In this case, they'd have to make it light and appropriate to the Air... but still look more Macbook Pro-ish in that regard.

USB 3.0 may become standard as well. It seems as though the tech might be skipped over though... not a lot of devices are adopting the tech, and we're just moving further into whatever USB 4.0 would be in years to come.

Who knows for the SSD though... that tech is changing relatively quickly. Again, if they go with Ivy Bridge in 2012, then we'll probably see 128GB/256GB options again; nothing new there.

But if we see a skip and we get 2013, then we'll be looking at better processor/graphics tech, and better SSD tech.

Mr X says they will be out on April 25th. That's before their sales call, though, so I doubt it. Although Mountain Lion releases a week before. How STUPID would it be of them to have the old OBSOLETE Airs running ML? I am going with the 25th. I will be checking this thread furiously until then

Also I'm sure Apple will want to incorporate Liquid Metal soon after buying out all their patents.

And any breakthrough in battery tech would be welcomed (with open arms and a gentle non-jolting forward hug).

Sounds plausible, but dont forget ML'll be rendered obsolete by Canyon Moose in Q4 2012 so I imagine they'll hold back any major upgrade until then. That is, unless they want to showcase the new design with Orchard Ox at WWDC 2013.
