Unfortunately no 2012 MBP can do 4k.

Even worse, some MBP with dual Intel/nVidia GPU (not sure if yours is one of them) suffer from a bug since circa 2017 so that if you connect an external monitor the CPU usage goes up to 100% after a while and the machine becomes unusuable :(

I used a 2012 15" unibody (non-retina) MBP with a Dell U3014E 30" monitor at 2560x1600, using an Apple mDP to Dual-link DVI adaptor meant for an Apple 30" Cinema Display.
No problems, but I didn't run it for extended periods of time, just an hour or two at a time.
I think it was running Mojave.

Old kit, nowadays, but I guess it means it should run a newer 1440p DP monitor?
