I apologize if this has been covered, I’ve tried to search for this and haven’t found much info on this specific thing. I have a fairly simple question. I’m wondering if a 27” 5K LCD panel will fit and work in a 27” 2013 non retina iMac with the r1811 converter board mod. I understand the logic boards wouldn’t allow these 2013 displays to be upgraded with 5k retina LCD panels, but I’m curious if I’m doing the external display mod with the r1811 board if I could stick a 5k screen in a 2013 iMac?

Thanks!

Yes, the 27” 2017 iMac LM270QQ1 (SD)C1 screen panel will fit in a 2013 case.
You will have to remove the Bluetooth antenna at the top right of the case, and maybe the WiFi antennas on the side.
And the webcam mount might need to be removed.

The R1811 board is a very good match with 2017 or later panels.

All conversion info is in the DIY 5K Monitor Success :) thread in Mac Accessories.

Yes, but you would then have an external display, which would no longer be usable as an iMac (the logic board, etc, for the iMac would all be stripped out)

“…but you would then have an external display….”

That’s a 5K Apple quality solution, not a problem. Being as it’s now 2024, and everything Mac before about 2019 is obsoleted. 🥲

Yes, OK.
so, OP can install a high-res display in an old iMac case.
Am I correct that the logic board has to be stripped out, and now the (former) iMac is only usable as an external display?
