I currently thinking about getting a 27" Late 2013 iMac for the efficient Haswell cpu and reasonably cheap price. But I'm just wondering if anyone has every tried upgrading the display to the 5k panel? I know it might be a stretch for the gpu. But what I'm really curious about is the connector: is it the same? Or can it converted to suit the 5k lcd panel?

I'm thinking of it as an upgrade path for it to be a 5k monitor. So "roughly" for the price of the studio display I can have "a studio display" and an extra computer. Just curious.

The cost to buy an iMac 2013 + 27" 5K LCD panel will exceed the price of a 2017" 5k iMac. (all 2nd stuff)
