2013 Mac Pro 1TB not enough

I have a 2013 Mac Pro and Photoshop is using upwards of 300GB of scratch space at the moment on a couple of jobs i'm doing. I can't delete anymore files and still keep running out of space.

I know OWC sell a 4TB blade for this machine but its a fair bit slower and i want to keep the speed i have on this internal SSD.

Is there a thunderbolt alternative i can put a sm951 in and get similar to the internal speeds of the current SSD i have installed?

I've seen the Sonnet Fusion PCIe Flash Drive - 512GB but a price tag of £650+Vat seems a bit steep!

Any alternatives?

You pick a nice market's most extreme high end product and then you're surprised it's not cheap.. :rolleyes:

Barefeats did some benchmarks comparing the internal SSD with Thunderbolt PCIe SM951 SSDs, which would seem very relevant to your interests.

Based on that, it would appear that you can use SM951 with the OWC Helios2 Thunderbolt 2.0 expansion box. Get the appropriate PCIe adapter based on whether you have an SM951 with M.2 or Apple connector.

Personally I don't have a nMP know so I don't know this from experience.

Has anyone had much success with 1000MBs+ SSD in thunderbolt 2?

Seems LaCie Little Big Disk is the fastest thing going, how do they perform in the real world?

I'm only really using Photoshop but my files are 20GB+

I have a couple of SSUBX's on Sintech Boards in 2 other 2010 Mac Pro's and was hoping to runs something similar.

Since then the SM951's came out so i was hoping to use these, why are they so much slower in an external TB2 enclosure and need 2x on RAID0 to bring them over 1000MBs when each SSD is more than capable on its own of reaching much higher figures mounted internally to other machine's on PCIE

really you think 630 -700 mb/sec write and 720mb
/sec read is really that slow come on.i mean really.my 2012 mac pro ssd gets 450 mb/sec write and 500 mb read and i don't think thats slow at all
