Hello folks. I'm planning to buy a GoPro Fusion 360. I hear it has horrible render times so i'm considering upgrading my 2012 MBP to either 1) a new 2018 MBP when it comes out or 2) keeping my 2012 MBP and getting a used 2013 Mac Pro Desktop for video rendering and TV media device. How does a 2013 Mac Pro compare to a new 2017 MBP when talking video rendering performance? There seems to be a ton of used Mac Pro's on eBay that are not moving, maybe someone will bite on a low offer?

Before getting the 2013, read this post https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...u-driver-issues.1860297/page-64#post-26203671 and the entire thread.

Some 2013 Mac Pros have serious GPU issues that Apple has been unable to fix.

Caveat emptor. Think about why those 2013 systems aren't moving. People are afraid to buy them.

IMO they're not moving because they're ridiculously overpriced. The base quad core option with a BIN price of $1,500??? In 2018?
The phrase "ridiculously overpriced" can often be applied to Apple's products. ;)

I think that the 2013 MP (MP6,1) is both overpriced and fatally flawed. ;) ;)

Do you have access to an Apple store? You can take some sample footage/apps there and try for yourself on different systems on display.

The Mac Pro may still have more raw power than a 2017 MBP but it lacks Intel's QuickSync hardware acceleration so rendering H264 in FCPX is WAY slower than even an i5 iMac in my experience: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8246119
