I picked up a trashcan Mac Pro which wasn't booting supposedly as no power. I got a new PSU for it and still no luck, and no diagnostic lights so I then resorted to a new IO board - but still the same. When I press power the rear panel lights up, but no fans or anything else. I'm using a magnet just to the right of the power button to trick the hall sensor.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to rectify? It's a Dual D700 12c model so would love to get it working. My only thought at the moment is maybe its the interconnect board but would be good to get advice from others.

I'm resigned to getting a working quad core one and diagnosing using the parts from that. Then I'll part out whatever I can.

I had 2 dead ones, one crashed all the time with a faulty MOBO regardless of ram; the other was dead like yours and a strange mark on the cpu, I changed the CPU and put that good mobo in the first one (i think it would have worked in either but i knew more about that one) and got a working trash can. Then i sold the dead one for parts.
