As a video editing setup, I was planning on running dual 1440p monitors for the desktop via mDP.

Would I be able to use the HDMI output to preview the live/program/sequence output from my video editing software in full res HD for playback or do I need a Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Mini Monitor? Hoping the HDMI port can eliminate this extra piece of hardware.

Probably a dumb question but need to ask.

If by full res hd you mean 1080p then yes you can.

^^^^I think the PO means 27" monitors that have a resolution of 2560 x 1440.

The dual 1440p monitors would strictly be for the desktop.

The HDMI output I'd like to have as a 3rd monitor running a larger 40"+ 1920x1080 for full screen program out only. Sounds like I'll be able to do it without additional hardware. If not, I'll just drop another $145 and get the BMD.
