Hi,

I'm looking at upgrading a iMac 2013 model with iris 5200 (Apple Model No: A1418 Model ID: iMac14,1).

It came with an apple 256gb SSD upgrade pre-installed.

Will it have the necessary bits inside to add a normal 2.5" HD as well?

I can find lots of information on upgrading the HD to SSD 2.5" but not actually adding a HD to a iMac that didn't come with one.

Also would this ram be OK to make it 16gb? or can I get it elsewhere for cheaper?

Thanks

Why throttle it with a platter drive?

If the 256GB SSD is not fast enough, consider investing in a 512GB SSD. That model 21.5" is considered 'non user upgradeable' for additional memory as it involves removing nearly all the innards of the iMac. Also this model has a glued LCD and screen and not the easiest to crack open.

I dont want to use the platter drive to boot from just to add extra storage for videos and music.

256gb will be great for the OS.

I understand its not easy to do but I have researched it and know what it involves.

Thanks
