Hi, I hope this is the right place to post this.

Yesterday my 2014 iMac 27inch with retina display failed to boot. I tried all the trouble shooting suggestions I could find online with no luck. I use the iMac a lot for business so will need to get it fixed. Right now in this health crisis no Apple stores are open and there are no certified dealerships nearby to assist (UK).

My question is does anyone know an approximate cost (£ UK) for Apple to replace certain parts of an iMac? i.e if it's a power supply issue how much would they charge. If it's the motherboard what would they charge etc

I'm looking for ballpark figures to determine whether I should try to get it fixed or look at alternative options once the lockdown is over.

Or if there are any further trouble shooting I could try? I've done the basic holding power button, press some keys on the keyboard etc

Thanks!
Matt

Could you describe to us WHERE in the boot process it fails?
If there's an error msg presented, could you tell us what it says?

You probably already did this but...
Have you tried booting to internet recovery (command-OPTION-R) ??

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry for not being clear. The iMac simply doesn’t turn on or do anything, no noises such as fans starting up inside of it when the power button is pressed. I haven’t tried booting to internet recovery but I’m assuming that wouldn’t help if the iMac doesn’t turn on?

Thanks!

This is probably a long shot, but.over the years I've had Macs (both iMacs and MacBooks) act like they just weren't going to turn on. In each case I held the power button down a long time until I heard the start up chime and then I was back in business.

Something else you could try:
(no promises)

UNPLUG the iMac from the wall for about 20 minutes and TAKE OUT the RAM.

After 20 minutes, put the RAM back in, plug it in, and see if it will start then.

Thanks I'll give both of those a try. Is taking the RAM out a simple thing to do? The iMac does have a panel on the back.

Open the panel.
GENTLY move aside the "retainer clips" on either end of the RAM DIMM and lift the DIMMs up and out.
When re-installing make sure they go in all the way, and that the clips re-engage.
