Okay, so I'm investing in a 2014 5k iMac with a Core i7-4790k, however, I'm having some issues...

I'd like to edit 1080p, perhaps 1440p video with this iMac, however, I've heard that the R9 M290X with 2GB of VRAM just doesn't cut it for video editing. The M295X with 4GB of VRAM is apparently better, but its just too much out of my price range. I use Premiere if that helps but idk. I also intend to screen record with OBS, but I know that's a bit more CPU intensive.

Any helps is appreciated!

For 1080p you're totally fine. I edited 1080 up until a couple years ago on a 2011 iMac with the radeon 6770 (only 512mb of ram!), which as far as I can tell, is maybe 1/2 as fast as your video card, maybe even slower than that. Even with the 6770, I never had a problem or lag with 1080 videos.

Once I realized I would be editing 4k is when I updated to the 2019 imac with the radeon 48, which handles 4k like butter.

But for 1080 (or even 1440) you should be totally fine.

P.S. I also use Premiere
