Thinking about buying the Acer G257HU 2K monitor for my 2014 Mac Mini. I'm wondering if I can hook this up directly through HDMI or if I have to use the MiniDisplayPort? I know the HDMI supports 4K but it doesn't explain if it supports other resolutions between 1080p & 4K.

You should be fine with either HDMI or mDP at 2560 x 1440

Currently running my 2014 Mac Mini through the mDP at that resolution because I'm running a BluRay player on the HDMI port right now, and bumped the Mac Mini off the monitors HDMI port.

Didn't really have an issue with the display using either port at 2560 x 1440

I couldn't get it to work via a caldigit thunderbolt box through HDMI so I went mDP to thunderbolt on my rMBP. I can try it out tomorrow though. I will vouch for that monitor though. I love it!
