I upgraded recently from Mojave to Catalina (10.15.5). As with Mojave, my 2015 27" iMac won't go to sleep consistently by itself, but unlike with Mojave, under Catalina the iMac won't stay asleep. I can put the iMac to sleep from the apple menu, and if I come back within about 30 min or so, it will still be asleep, but after a longer period, it has always awakened itself.

In Energy Saver, I have "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" checked, but everything is UNchecked (in particular, "Wake for network access" is NOT checked).

I've read here that Catalina seems to have a lot of issues with sleep, but I haven't seen anyone describe this particular issue (most seem to be having the issue that under Catalina, their Macs won't wake up from sleep at all...).

Is there is fix for this, or is it simply something I have to deal with if I want to use Catalina?

I think the sleep issue that people are referring to has to do with getting kernel panics when the computer is woke up from sleeping.

Open the Console app and look in the logs for entries that might give up a clue as to why the computer is being woke up by itself.

Try applying the 10.15.5 combo update, it might help.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

I've noticed the same thing with my late 2015 iMac. It will fall asleep but randomly wake up. On some trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night I've nearly had a heart attack trying to figure out who's on the computer or why it woke up. Resetting the SMC seems to solve it for a while, but then it just comes back.

Below command will show activities related to your mac's sleep.

pmset -g log

Anyone knows of any software/front-end to parse this log? Or can someone help to find the documentation for it?
