So i'm a university student who is studying film, and I brought myself a 2017 macbook pro (base) and it has been ok but can be slow. (I do love it loads) i'm now looking at getting a used 2015 Imac, 21 inch, i7 3.3 ghz, 16gb ram and 1tb ssd.
What i'm wondering is if getting a late 2015 model is still good in 2018??
Thanks for the help!

Depends on what you use it for. I have no idea what a film student does. If you're just using Office class apps and minor photo edits, a 2015 is probably more than enough.

I use Adobe Premier pro to edit on. The film school has their own powerful macs, i'm just trying to find one to use in my flat. Don't need something too powerful, plus i can't afford a newer one
