2015 iMac, screen edge reddish tinting

Hey everyone,

I've had an iMac 5k since late 2015 (meaning my Applecare is up in December, so I have a little time to think about this) and I've just started noticing this problem.

Whenever I fill the screen with white, or drag a window over one of the edges, there's a noticeable reddening to the white leading up to the edge, which leads me to believe there's some bleed or drop-off happening with the backlight. But I'm not familiar with how the lighting on these things is constructed, so I'm not sure. Something coming unglued causing light leak off the screen?

Has anyone else run into this problem? And do you think this is something that Applecare would cover fixing up? It's an issue because I use my iMac for video editing/animation, and while I know the iMac isn't exactly officially color-accurate, I need color consistency in my work.

Some Light bleed is normal to some extent. No IPS panel is perfect sadly.

Excessive light bleed is not normal and if it's combined with temperature shift towards edges, then you should have it checked under warranty. Excessive light bleed indicates overly tightened screen as compared to being loose.

2014 and later iMacs use White LEDs and later P3 Displays use some other kind. They are actually calibrated from factory. I have used multiple color profiling devices and most of the time, delta values are within ranges. With few exceptions where ambient light is not ideal.

I would recommend getting it checked and may be replaced in warranty.

For sure—thanks for the useful perspective.

The only reason I'm even posting on this is that it's a problem that's developed over time; I checked my display for lightening evenness as soon as I got it (and even sent back my first iMac because it had an uneven display) and it didn't have this problem two years ago.

So if it's a developing problem, I'm a touch worried it will continue to get worse. I think I'll take it in to my Apple store down the road and see what happens.

It shouldn't deteriorate so fast. Get it checked.
