My 2016 12" Macbook has started to freeze the pointer and the trackpad doesn't react or extremely slow. Have to put it to sleep to make it work again.
I suspect the hardware is going bad since I have upgraded it to Ventura which is the least it can take. But it won't make sense to repair it I suspect given it is 7 years old and won't be able to run anything after Ventura. I love the size and portability but it is now used by my son who will need a new laptop for college next year. Anyone has any idea if this is something easily fixed or do i bit the bullet and buy an Air

I just replaced the trackpad ($70) and associated flex cable ($20) from Ifixit for a 2017 MacBook. Took about 30 mins though I'd previously replaced the battery so was familiar with working inside the case.

Excellent repair guide for replacing these components.
