I have a late 2013, about to buy 2016 Macbook Pro 13" 16GB 512SSD 2.7GHz

I may be moving from the states to a region outside of USA that may not have apple stores, should I buy the apple care for my new macbook pro if I end up moving to that region?

I am moving to Puerto Rico, is a small island in the caribbean. There is no apple stores down there, but they sell mac products in best buy and other stores.

It is a first generation product so as yet uncertain about long term issues. There has already been a few bumps along the way with the late 2016 mb pros with displays and drivers.

From memory you can add it on for up to one year after purchase. In this case I certainly would consider it.

If you can afford it, get it.

My 3 year old Pro has always been fine, but two months before its 3rd birthday the keyboard started playing up. My local Apple Store said to me if I had Apple Care it'd be a no quibble matter and it would be repaired by them at no charge.

It lasts for 3 years. Go price a Dell, Alienware, Lenovo, etc and add a 3 year warranty or support package and you'll see just how good value Apple Care is.

You've got a high spec machine, protect that investment.

My repair cost is £350 on a 2012 spec Mac.. if I paid £200 for Apple Care when I made my purchase in 2014, I'd be automatically better off!!! Hence why I recommend it.

I think you have up to 1 year to buy it from the purchase of a new Mac?

You can mail your Mac to Apple under Apple Care repairs btw, so don't worry if you're not near a store. Just ALWAYS insure your postage so it can't go missing.

Probably get varying opinions, but IMO I would've never needed it. My 2013 has always run fine touch wood.

I had a 2010 MBP for 6 years without Apple Care and it was fine. Bought AC with my 2016 because I have had dells in the past with touch keys that stopped working after a while. If something happens in the next couple years I want to be covered since this is so new. So far no issues with my 2016 MBP.

I'd buy it for the peace of mind, if not for caution. Just one out of warranty repair on practically any part that fails will exceed the cost of AppleCare in the first place.

On a machine so expensive, it's worth paying for another two years of warranty.

As for any insurance it's worth it when it breaks and not worth it when it works.

The numbers will indicate that it's not worth it to the consumer to buy insurance while it's only offered because it's profitable to the company. I've purchased AppleCare in the past. If I had bought it for every Apple product I have owned I would be out thousands of dollars while only bringing in a laptop for repair once. People justify it by how much something costs but numerically insurance is never worth it to the consumer. If mentally it bothers you, paying for peace of mind is priceless.

I think it is totally worth it, especially if you use your battery a lot, given you can get one free battery out of it at least (and if you are putting multiple cycles on a battery every day, you might get two.) If you run in to a single problem, you save over what you paid. And IIRC when they replace the battery, don't they also replace the entire top case?
