2017 12.9 Pro upgrade

Hey all,

I've got a 256GB 12.9 Pro LTE (2017 model) and the g/f has the 16GB Air 2 LTE (9.7 I think) and I want to upgrade her iPad for Christmas.

She's said she liked mine when she's picked it up so I'm not even considering the 10.5 version. I think the screen size bump will be exactly what she's looking for.

Am I crazy for getting the 2017 model? Both of us have the 8 Plus so we are fans of Touch ID and outside of Face ID am I missing a whole lot by getting her the same model I have? It's a couple hundred bucks less as well and I'm already not happy with the 2018 price increases.

She's mainly a web surfer and gamer with occasional music and video watching. 2017 Pro should suffice I'm thinking but would love some comments!

It would be more than enough. The main differences are going to be Touch ID vs Face ID which you've already said isn't an issue, and the 2017 iPP is larger/more unwieldy than the 2018, but it's a powerful device with a great display that will be usable for years to come.

If you aren't averse to getting a used model with AppleCare+ (which makes it "new" after you use up one of their incidents of accidental damage and get a brand new refurbished replacement), eBay is practically giving them away as per my thread below.

Thanks all. Going with the gut and getting her the 256GB 12.9 2017 model like I have. Will be a nice bump in screen size as well as storage from 16GB. I could go with 64GB but nah...

She'll definitely be happy with the upgrade.

I think the size and weight reduction alone would be worth it for the new 12.9 inch model, but you’re right, it’ll be a big upgrade either way. If she was happy with yours, she’ll love it.

You can get older pencils for pennies on the dollar through eBay. Everyone and their mother who is upgrading to a new Pro has been unloading those at fire sale prices.
