The battery recently failed in my laptop and the battery started swelling.

I went to the Apple store and found out that the 2017 15" MacBook Pro is now vintage and Apple doesn't have the battery replacement.

I was also unable to find the battery in any of the 3rd party repair places (i.e. nobody seems to replace the battery).

I ended up purchasing a battery and repair kit from OWC and I'm going to attempt to repair it myself :(.

I like Apple desktops but I will never again buy an Apple laptop.

Because of a consumable and replaceable part? You do realize that all laptops regardless of manufacturer have batteries. Why does Apple deserve your ire?

The battery should be replaceable except Apple decided that a 2017 laptop is vintage.

It can be the best laptop in the world but it's only a paper weight if you can't replace the consumable battery.

Well with the push from the EU hopefully Apple will change as per USB C on the iPhone. It's absolutely ridiculous to need to scrap a perfectly serviceable computer as the manufacturer is too cheap to offer a replacement battery pack. Worse Apple's implementation is dangerous for the average user to conduct a battery replacement on many models.

Apple needs to stop talking about sustainability and actually act on it not just bragging on Keynotes. Apple's model of sustainability is replacing your hardware as it sees fit to keep the $$$$ rolling in...

Zero reason why a 2017 MBP isn't adequate or repairable barring the keyboard failing. I've a low spec Acer Switch 5 from 2016 and it still runs well with no cut off from Acer or Microsoft with just 11% battery wear on the latest version of W10 and that was just a $600 purchase....
