to a 2 tb ext ssd to boot from and use the int fusion dr for time machine- question- some of these ssd's are kind of pricey --any sense of buying used or refurb if I can find one.??

.. other than that, I am guessing amazon for new.....can anyone provide experienced guidence on that for me please-

How much of that 2tb fusion drive is currently being used?

If it's less than 1tb, have you considered a 1tb SSD instead?

You can defuse the Fusion drive and that will give you a 128 GB SSD and a 2 TB hard drive. Then you can install macOS on the internal 128 GB SSD.

Then you can put your data on either the internal 2 TB hard drive, or else on an external SSD (or both).

Thank you both......defuse seems to be asking for trouble those deals never never go s mooth.
