2017 iMac Pro stops recognizing external monitor frequently

I've had this issue through multiple OS versions now, but my 2017 iMac Pro connected via USB C to an LG Ultrawide 4k will frequently just stop recognizing the display is connected on wakeup. It'll work smoothly for weeks, and then suddenly stops and requires a reboot to fix.

I've tried multiple cables and connection type, with no success. Any ideas?
