I have absolutely loved my 2017 iPad Pro. It’s my couch buddy and a frequent flier. I have been thinking of upgrading to a 2021 iPad Pro or a 2021 MacBook Air. I cannot get over the bend issues with the iPad Pro and the iPad Pro would be my preferred device but I’m thinking hard about getting a Macbook Air. Now this would be my secondary device considering I’m primary using a gaming PC to get my work done and play games. Don’t even try to talk me out of my gaming PC. I had a iMac and it was a joke.

Should I upgrade the 2017 iPad Pro or stick with it?

Only you can answer that. What do you primarily use your iPad for? How's the battery life these days?

If it's for consumption very little difference. I'd keep the 2017 and use the funds towards something else like Lenovo Legion 7 or Slim 7 gaming laptop, Steam Deck, etc.

I came from a Pro 10.5 and briefly tried out a Air 4 going to a 12.9 (granted it’s 3rd Gen) was a nice upgrade. The slimmer bezels will be appreciated while still keeping that same size and tbh it doesn’t feel that big after a while. I’d keep the 2017 if it’s still working well for you (good battery, no screen issues etc) because it can still handle pretty much the same things, but if you do want to upgrade you will like the overall improvements.

In terms of bending that issue also scared me a bit at first. I wish it was thicker… I am using a simple magnetic MoKo case on mine and that seems to help it hold up without bending. I actually accidentally set on it while it was in my backpack and nothing happened.

The bend issues are overrated.

Are there any specific reasons you're wanting to upgrade?

I have a 2017 iPP 10.5 and I'm keeping it and returning the new 2021 IPP 11 because I like the screen better on the former-- seems to be flatter light, almost like e-ink, compared to the newer screen, which seems to have a glow behind the screen, almost like a flashlight pointing at your eyes. I'll wait till the next screen update before considering upgrading again.

I think that using a case or Magic Keyboard greatly reduces potential issues because they are rigid enough to minimize bending stresses. I think it really comes down to how rough you are on your iPad, but its worth having insurance/AppleCare on any expensive piece of electronics you travel with.

Weird flex because no one knew to talk about your gaming PC until you brought it up.
