2017 iPad vs iPad Air 1

I've been searching the web and MacRumors to find a spec comparison chart but keep coming up empty. Any thoughts on how the new iPad compares to the Air 1? Best Buy is offering a device trade-in special, so I could essentially swap my 16GB Air with a 32GB iPad for $154. I'm torn on whether it's worth it with my limited knowledge.

Is $154 worth a A9 2gb ram and fresh battery other than that there essentially identical, except with the new one you get all the iOS features

Worth it if you're an avid user of your iPad. The 2GB RAM allows you to actually use two apps at once in split view, and that's a game changer. Throw in speed improvements, Touch ID, display improvements, doubling your storage, etc and I think you'll get your money's worth.

The new iPad is ~2x CPU and ~3x GPU speed, quite likely double the RAM, double the storage, TouchID and has better camera for a very affordable price. At full $329 MSRP, it's already worth it. At $154? As far as upgrades go, this one's a no brainer.

On the same boat as you are, I'm going for it because the Best Buy deal you can't beat with the trade in. And it's an upgrade to the air

I'm trading in an iPad 3 64GB WiFi-only Black ($114) and an iPad 3 64GB Verizon Black ($106). Doesn't make sense to me that WiFi-only model has higher trade-in value than the Verizon one but it is what it is. Seriously, the value hit on higher end models is pretty bad.

The Bestbuy cut-off at the Air and Mini2 for trade-in leaves me, my sisters, and my bro-in-law out in the cold.

The Apple trade-in value is pretty low too.

My iPad 3 is going back as well. The GC value of $100 is as good as I'll ever get, and will give me an excuse to get rid of my last <iOS 10 and 30-pin device.

Yep, $100 is pretty decent all things considered. One iPad 3 is on iOS 9 (slow but at least not use-as-a-frisbee unbearable as iOS 8) and the Verizon one is on iOS 6 (aside from apps not being up to date, very usable).

I'm keeping the following:
iPod Touch 4th gen 32GB - iOS 4
iPhone 4 32GB - iOS 5
iPhone 4S - iOS 6
iPad 4 128GB - iOS 6

I'm sad my iPhone 5 Slate (iOS 6) developed a bad battery (slightly swollen).

Apple's devices may have a hard time keeping up with newer, more bloated firmware but they trudge on amazingly well if you don't update.

Getting an iPad Air 2 128GB and a 2017 iPad 32GB to replace the old iPad 3s.

Air 2 32GB (both new and open-box) is out of stock in my area so that lack of choice made the decision to get the new model much easier.

I'd say it's worth it for only $154. You'll be getting the same form factor but with these benefits:
-Faster processor (the A9 should be about double the speed of the older A7)
-Touch ID
-Double the storage (for those like you trading in a 16 GB Air)
-Improved camera
-Double the ram (this one hasn't been confirmed but is almost guaranteed, and will allow split-screen multi-tasking and significantly reduced app reloading and makes web browsing in safari a much better experience)
-Longer support with iOS upgrades (there is a good chance that iOS 11 will be the last version that supports the iPad Air)

I know some of the people I have seen above talking about what Best Buy is giving them for trade in would get more at Amazon ($130 for a 64GB third gen in black, $150 for white). Amazon's trade in prices fluctuate pretty wildly though so you need to keep checking.

I've traded in 3 iPads there and have been very happy with what I've got. Much more than local resale shops, Best Buy, Verizon, etc have offered me.

I'm debating should i go for the 9.7 pro since its 599 for 128 gb or the new 2017 one? I'm torn I want the one that will last longer value wise and iOS wise.

For what is is worth...

While Amazon's trade in pricing is usually a bit better than best buy...the are very subjective when it comes to rating the condition of the device.

One year I traded in two iphones, ranked them as excellent (every original item included), and checked the box to return if they didn't agree. Everything went off seamlessly. The following year I did the exact same, but they didn't not agree with my rating, indicating there were scratches (there were none) and it took almost 2weeks to get my devices back and watched the trade in value decease with every waiting day.

Yeah I want to wait, but I feel the next update will not be a huge one maybe a faster processor or ram upgrade. Guess my trip to Hawaii is wanting me to get the iPad soon since I go in a few weeks. I hear some people say they won't update the iPad line until fall.
