2017 Mac Pro 4k at 60hz?

Hey guys,

I have a 4K TV hooked up to my new 2017 Mac Pro (the spec bumped one) and I can't get it to display at 3840x2160 at 60hz! It will only do 30hz at 4k, but does 60hz at 1080p. I just double checked to make sure the TV's refresh rate is fine and everything looks okay (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...55uh6150-light-silver-55uh6150/10414409.aspx?)

I've tried a HDMI 2.0 cable to the TV, Mini Display Port to HDMI to the TV. Is there any tricks to getting this to work?

Not via HDMI. HDMI will only output 4K at 30Hz on the Mac Pro 6.1. The HDMI port is HDMI 1.4 not 2.0.

I'm not sure if anyone on here has maybe tried this workaround of buying a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor and then try to get 4K at 60Hz. Not tried it myself.

I actually mentioned in my post I just tried that, and it still didn't work out for me which is super weird. The adapter I bought definitely says it would do 4K at 60hz.
 
There is no spec bump on the Mac Pro. It's still the 2013 model, not 2017,. Apple just remove the low end model, and made some price adjustment.

Anyway, if you check the spec, your Mac Pro does NOT have HDMI 2.0. Therefore, impossible to deliver 4K 60Hz via HDMI port.

If you really want that. The 1st thing to check is if your TV really support HDMI 2.0 input. Just in case you have a first gen 4k TV that doesn't support HDMI 2.0. If yes, then make sure you know which port is HDMI 2.0, some TV have both HDMI 1.4 and 2.0 inputs.

Then, you will need a mini display port to HDMI 2.0 ACTIVE converter. With this adaptor. You should able to get 4k 60Hz on you TV.

On the LG website it says it has 3 (HDCP 2.2) HDMI ports. Can you link me to the adaptor you recommend?
 
4k 60HZ on the mac pro only comes out of the TB2 ports. Get a mDP 1.2 (TB connector) to HDMI cable, should work.

The HDMI port is only 1.4 and thus can only do 4K at 30hz.

According to apple support the max res at 60hz is 2560 x 1440. Above that it can push past 30hz regardless of how you hook it up.
